Patrick Ardagh-Walter
Patrick Ardagh-Walter had a brief former life as a professional violinist before beginning his career as a classical singer in the mid-1980s. After a few years singing Early Music (Gothic Voices, The Tallis Scholars, the Taverner Consort) he pursued his enthusiasm for contemporary music (Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Electric Phoenix) and also started to work more on the opera stage, including roles at Opéra National de Lyon, Metz and the Opéra Comique in Paris.
While living in France he recorded and performed as a soloist with BBC Radio 3 and many other national broadcasters. After three years touring and recording as bass of the Swingle Singers he put down roots in London and focussed his studies on classical technique, working with David L. Jones in New York and Cathy Pope in London. Soon convinced that he needed ‘Alexander hands’ to teach singing effectively, he moved to Oxford in 2006 to train with the late Stephen Cooper, to whom he owes a whole new experience of living. Patrick later went on to complete his practitioner training in MDH Breathing Coordination with Lynn Martin (Carl Stough’s assistant for 25 years) and Robin de Haas. Patrick freelances widely as a London singer, teaches actors and musicians and is finding much satisfaction in using AT skills to support people at the end of life. He lives with a husband and two dogs in St Albans. |
